1 yr passed: news, facts, stuff

More than one year has passed since my last post on this blog. Many things have happened meantime. I am still in the job as attorney and still a fan of Free Open Source Software and especially OpenOffice.org.

World is revolving with or without me, many things have changed and many are the same. This is an attempt to get back to the good habit of blogging. Since this blog is dedicated to the IT and FOSS part of my life as well as legal aspects, I will continue in the same line.

My last post was announcing the Eliberatica Conference on Open Source in Bucharest last year when I had the chance to meet once more Louis Suarez-Potts, the OpenOffice.org Community Manager. The conference was a success so they continued with Eliberatica 2009 this year.

In the same period of time as Eliberatica 2008 I gave up the Project Lead Role for the Romanian OpenOffice.org native language project, in favor of the most promising contributor at that time, Alexandru Szasz. I like the results so far. Keep up the good work Alexandru!

More recent news:

• Recent news in the Romanian press showed an increased activity of BSA in Romania, first punishments in court for using pirated software have appeared. As fines, the punishments are small (approx 5000 EUR) but as example to the others, they demonstrate the need of small and medium enterprises as well as public authorities to start using licensed software and also the attempt of commercially licensed software companies to gather some more money in time of crisis. Of course, my advice is for Free Open Source Software which can be considered mature enough for business. Romanian language news here
