Ubuntu-tweak: your Ubuntu customization made simple

In the series of discovering new software while trying out a new version of Ubuntu I want to tell you in this post about a customization tool for Ubuntu Linux operating system that I discovered today: Ubuntu Tweak.

By downloading the DEB file and double-clicking on it to install the application, you’ve got yourself a priceless tool that will allow you to change Ubuntu settings that otherwise are hard to get to if you do not want to get past a graphical user interface.

I tried it today on two settings I wanted different that the default and it worked like a charm. First was the Window Title Bar buttons – which I still want on the right side instead of the default left that came in the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Linx version (I like novelty but some sudden changes have impact on productivity, so I needed it back).

I was looking for the second one since ages, not willing to deal with console and configuration files: changing the default Video player (i prefer VLC) for all video formats.

They both worked instantly and I am grateful for this tool to the authors. But there are literally tens of settings you might want to change/configure using this tool which works as a one-stop-shop for customizing your Ubuntu desktop the way you need it.

NOTE from their website: At present, it’s only designed for the Ubuntu GNOME Desktop, and always follows the newest Ubuntu distribution.

I encourage you to try it and if you like it, you should consider helping the project by donating.

Visit their website and download: Ubuntu Tweak.
