In May 2009 the Romanian Government has announced its renewal of a framework software licence with Microsoft. The licence deal is worth 100 million euro for government agencies licenses for use between 2010 and 2012 as well as 58 million euro as the final payment for the 2004 – 2009 framework licence agreement.
They are also awarding a 300 million euro contract to a Romanian IT company for PC hardware and Microsoft software licences to be used in education.
All this happened after several months of publicity that this government is cutting costs. And more, it happens without even consider free software alternatives.
