Being open-minded
This is what it takes to be able to truly evaluate other software solutions. The existing offer is great and the alternatives might be better than what you are currently using: operating systems, office suites, graphics applications, etc. You only need to open your mind when trying these applications in a few work sessions and see if your regular tasks can be completed using these alternatives.
Listen to critiques and consulting specialists BUT take their recommendations with a grain of salt. They are forced to give ‘moderated’ opinions to accomodate the wide range of potential clients. What matters is your own experience. You might be surprised by the results and in the same time you might end up with a lot of extra money in your pockets saved by discovering that you can actually reduce software licensing costs and preserve or even increase productivity. Use your freedom to choose.
